Ancient Korean Language
The Koreans didn't have a written script of their language until the
15th century C.E. Before that they used Ido, which was adapted
from Chinese scripts. In the middle of the 1400's King Sejong
hired a group of scholars to create a writing system that is easier and
more suited for Korean than Ido. What they came up with was Hangul
(Korean letters). However, tradition prevailed, and the scholars
continued to use classical Chinese as the literary language and it
was not until 1945 that Hangul became well known in Korea.
